Grade EN24
Key Properties of EN24
1. Very High Tensile Strength
In the Q&T condition, EN24 typically reaches:
a. 850 – 1200 MPa tensile strength
b. 30 – 40 HRC hardness (depending on heat treatment)
It can be induction hardened to 55–60 HRC for wear-critical surfaces.
2. Outstanding Toughness & Fatigue Resistance
EN24 is excellent for components under:
a. impact loads
b. torsional stress
c. cyclic fatigue
d. shock and vibration
3. Excellent Hardenability
Maintains strength even in large diameters, making it ideal for heavy shafts and industrial machine parts.4. Good Wear Resistance
Due to a combination of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum.5. Moderate Machinability
Machinable in annealed or tempered conditions.6. Weldability
Possible but requires preheating (250–350°C) and post-weld heat treatment to avoid cracking due to high hardenability.Typical Applications of EN24
EN24 is widely used across automotive, aerospace, defense, mining, fabrication, heavy machinery, and oil & gas industries. Common components include:
1. Heavy-duty shafts, propeller shafts & transmission shafts
2. Gears, pinions, spur gears & bevel gears
3. High-strength studs, bolts, tie rods
4. Crankshafts, camshafts & connecting rods
5. Couplings, spindles & axles
6. Tool holders, collets & chuck parts
7. Heavy forging components
8. Aircraft landing gear parts
9. Press rams & high-load machine parts
10. Mining drill rods & downhole tools
