Grade DB6/ 1.2714
DB6/ 1.2714, is a high-performance nickel–chromium–molybdenum alloyed hot-work tool steel supplied mainly in a pre-hardened condition (typically 34–45 HRC). This grade offers an excellent combination of toughness, high strength, hardenability, and impact resistance, making it a premium choice for die-casting, forging, and mould base applications.
Unlike regular hot-work steels, DB6/ 1.2714 features a high nickel content, which provides outstanding toughness and deep hardening capability. This makes it suitable for large dies, heavy-section tools, and components that must withstand both mechanical shock and elevated temperatures.
Key Properties of DB6/ 1.2714
1. High Toughness & Impact Resistance
The elevated nickel content allows DB6 to withstand heavy mechanical shock, making it ideal for forging dies and high-impact tooling.2. Pre-Hardened Steel (Ready for Direct Use)
Supplied at 34–45 HRC, DB6 can be directly machined and used without additional heat treatment. This reduces production time and prevents distortion.3. Excellent Hardenability
Even large die blocks and thick sections can be uniformly hardened, ensuring consistent performance throughout.4. Good Wear & Heat Resistance
Chromium and molybdenum provide strong wear resistance under repeated hot-working and pressure cycles.5. Good Machinability
Despite being pre-hardened, DB6 is easy to machine, drill, and mill—saving significant production time.6. Good Weldability
Suitable for repair welding with proper preheating and post-weld heat treatment.Common Applications
DB6 / 1.2714 is widely used in hot forging, die-casting, mould making, and heavy-duty tooling industries. Applications include:
1. Hot forging dies & drop-forge tools
2. Die blocks & hammer forging dies
3. Closed-die forging dies
4. Plastic mould bases and plates
5. Pressure die-casting dies
6. Die holders, bolsters & support tools
7. Extrusion tooling
8. Machine parts subjected to heavy stress
9. Punches, rams & high-impact tools
