Purohit Steel is a leading Grade VR 300 Stockist and Exporter serving Mumbai, supplying NLMK Verona VR 300 pre-hardened plastic mould steel directly from our warehouse in Vasai East and our sales outlet in Mumbai city, with verified chemical composition, mechanical properties and full traceability for Mumbai-region mould makers, OEMs and tooling houses.

As an authorized stockist of NLMK Verona and an ISO-certified company established in 1965, we hold ready stock of Grade VR 300 in round bar, flat bar and block form close to Mumbai, with in-house bandsaw cutting, machining, grinding, drilling, gun drilling, EDM and wire-cut support for fast local turnaround.

What is Grade VR 300 Steel?

Grade VR 300 is a pre-hardened chromium-manganese-molybdenum-nickel (Cr-Mn-Mo-Ni) plastic mould steel from the NLMK Verona VR Tool Steels range. It is produced via EAF-LF-VD refining, forging, rolling and quench-and-temper heat treatment, and supplied in accordance with EN 10228-3 Class 4 and SEP 1921 Class E/e internal-soundness standards.

VR 300 is delivered in a quenched-and-tempered (pre-hardened) condition of approximately 280-325 HB (29-35 HRC), so it can be machined directly without further heat treatment. Its manufacturing process is specifically optimised to give uniform hardness through sections up to 700mm thick, along with high polishability, high machinability, excellent suitability for texturing and increased thermal conductivity compared to standard P20-family steels.

Note: “VR 300” is Purohit Steel's supply designation for this NLMK Verona VR Tool Steels product — it is not itself a DIN or AISI/SAE standard number. Based on its chemical composition it belongs to the same general family as 1.2311 (P20) and 1.2738 (P20+Ni) pre-hardened plastic mould steels; see the comparison table below for how it differs from those grades.

Local Supply from Our Vasai Warehouse & Mumbai Outlet

Unlike outstation stockists who quote and ship VR 300 from another state, Purohit Steel's warehousing sits inside the Mumbai Metropolitan Region — in Vasai East — with a dedicated sales outlet in Mumbai city itself. For mould-making and tooling workshops across Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and the Vasai-Virar industrial belt, that proximity translates into a genuinely shorter supply chain for VR 300 round bar, flat bar and block stock.

  • Local dispatch: Stock held at the Vasai warehouse can typically be arranged for pickup or local transport faster than material routed from an outstation depot.
  • Mumbai sales outlet: Discuss grade selection, hardness requirements and section sizes with our technical team in person at our Mumbai outlet, without waiting on a remote quotation cycle.
  • Serving the local tooling cluster: We regularly supply mould-making and precision-engineering workshops in and around Kandivali, Andheri, Bhiwandi, Vasai-Virar, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
  • In-house finishing near you: Bandsaw cutting, machining, grinding, drilling, gun drilling, EDM and wire-cut services are carried out at our own facility, so blocks can be collected finished rather than sub-contracted out.
  • Urgent replacement stock: For breakdown or urgent tooling repair needs, our Vasai stockholding reduces the wait compared to sourcing VR 300 from outside Maharashtra.

Through-Hardening & Polishability

VR 300's manufacturing process is designed to deliver an optimised balance of chemical composition and processing so that hardness stays uniform through very thick sections. Manufacturer hardness-distribution data on a 700mm-thick block shows hardness staying within a tight band — roughly 305-330 HB near the surface, gently tapering to around 290 HB at 400mm depth — meaning large mould bases retain consistent machinability and mechanical performance from surface to core.

The steel also carries a published polishing range from VR01 (rough grinding) to VR13 (dry diamond polishing, achieving Ra 0.03 µm / mirror finish), and is validated for standard mould texturing processes — a genuine advantage for automotive interior/exterior trim and consumer-facing cosmetic mould surfaces where finish quality is critical.

Internal soundness is certified to EN 10228-3 Class 4 and SEP 1921 Class E/e. As noted above, VR 300 is Purohit's supply name for this NLMK Verona product and is not a DIN/AISI equivalence claim.

Available Forms & Sizes

  • Round Bars
  • Flat Bars / Plates
  • Blocks (up to heavy sections, given VR 300's through-hardening to 700mm)
  • Custom sizes cut to drawing via in-house bandsaw cutting

Material is machined, ground, drilled and finished in-house through our precision machining, grinding, drilling, gun drilling, EDM and wire-cut facilities in Vasai, so blocks can be collected close to finished dimensions without sub-contracting to a third party.

Machining & Selection Notes

  • Cutting tools: At 280-325 HB, VR 300 machines well with standard HSS or coated carbide tooling at moderate cutting speeds, with good chip control from its clean, homogeneous microstructure.
  • Deep cavity work: Because hardness stays consistent through very thick sections, deep-cavity roughing and finishing passes behave predictably even close to the block core.
  • Texturing & polishing: Plan final surface finishing using the VR01-VR13 polishing sequence appropriate to the required roughness (Ra), and confirm the texturing pattern with your mould designer before final machining allowances are set.
  • EDM finishing: The pre-hardened condition is well suited to EDM cavity sinking without further heat-treatment concerns.
  • Grade selection: Choose VR 300 where thick-section uniformity, thermal performance and cosmetic surface finish matter most; see the comparison table above against 1.2311 and 1.2738.

Applications of Grade VR 300 Steel

Per the manufacturer's own positioning, VR 300 is intended for plastic dies requiring excellent surface finishing, compression moulding, plastic injection moulds, and automotive-industry moulds requiring texturing. Purohit Steel supplies it to mould shops across the Mumbai region for the following applications:

  • Plastic injection moulds (medium to large size)
  • Compression moulding tools
  • Blow moulds
  • Automotive interior and exterior moulds requiring texturing
  • Tooling plates and mould base components
  • Consumer product and packaging moulds needing a high-quality finish

Grade VR 300 for Mould Making

In mould making, VR 300 is preferred where large mould blocks need consistent hardness and machinability throughout their thickness, along with a mirror-quality polishable and texturable cavity surface.

Automotive Industry

VR 300 is used for dashboards, interior trim, bumpers and other precision plastic components where surface finish, texture reproduction and dimensional stability across a large mould base are critical — a significant share of India's automotive-ancillary mould-making capacity sits within the greater Mumbai and Pune corridor that Purohit Steel serves.
